We are calling for expressions of interest from groups of two-to-three people working together on their language.

This series follows the story of the Karajarri people of the Kimberley region in Western Australia as they reconnect with cultural heritage material in the AIATSIS Collection.

There are several items of Japanese origin held in the AIATSIS Collection including two from the 19th century.

The National Digital Forum is an annual conference that has been running since 2002 which brings together a range of professionals in the GLAM sector and wider industry to discuss current projects, new technologies and future directions. Our focus was on the digitisation stream, which had a range of interesting topics.

AIATSIS is celebrating 2019 International Woman’s Day by recognising Senior Australian of the Year Laurie Baymarrwaŋa’s vision to ‘give language back to the children’.

“…our only security is our cultural knowledge that we must carry with us and live by to pass it on to our children and they to their children, so that in the distant future we will still be proven owners of our homeland Zenadth Kes and with cultural knowledge we can have a solid foundation to stand on and fight”

Our engineering section archives and maintains the devices and ancillary machines that are needed to play back the sound and vision recorded on the 55,000 hours of video and audio held on magnetic tape in the collection.
