The newspaper hoped to, 'develop community spirit by bringing news and information about what was happening in Maningrida and the new rural settlements' and to look beyond to see Maningrida's place in the development of Arnhem Land generally.

Other local newspapers followed the publication of the Maningrida Mirage - the Gabalgu Jurra, Manayingkarirra Djurrung and Manayingkarirra Djurran Janguny.

The AIATSIS Collection holds many community newsletters from all around Australia. These newsletters document cultural, political and social issues, activities and interests from the 1960s to the present.

The Maningrida Mirage was digitised and made available by AIATSIS with the permission of the Maningrida community.
