The Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS), Russell Taylor AM, has been honoured with the inaugural University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Indigenous Australian Alumni Award 2016.
Each year the UTS formally recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of its alumni through its Alumni Awards. Mr Taylor received the award for his commitment to promoting knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, traditions, languages and stories, past and present, at a ceremony in the University’s Great Hall in Sydney on Tuesday 20 September, 2016.
On top of being CEO at AIATSIS, Mr Taylor currently serves on the UTS Council and is Chair of the UTS Vice Chancellor’s Indigenous Advisory Committee. He is a member of Charles Darwin University Vice Chancellor’s Indigenous Advisory Committee, a board member of the Lowitja Institute and the ATSI Healing Foundation, and was a founding director of the Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre.
Past winners of the UTS Alumni Awards include Sydney Peace Prize recipient and human rights activist Senator Sekai Holland; Director and CEO of the Australian Museum Kim McKay AO; and Founder and Managing Director of the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation Andrew Penfold AM.
