His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley took time out of their busy schedule to visit the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) this week.

Their Excellencies were given a brief overview of the 55 year history of AIATSIS by CEO Craig Ritchie and discussed AIATSIS functions and projects with staff from across the Institute. Through the tour they were shown a small selection of highlights from the collection of over 1 million items relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia cared for by AIATSIS.

Their Excellencies were particularly interested in AIATSIS’ work with language maintenance and revival, and the Institute’s recent role in the production of the primary school educational series Our Land, Our Stories.
