AIATSIS Council appointments announced by the Minister for Indigenous Australians

Today, Senator, the Hon Malarndirri McCarthy, the Minister for Indigenous Australians announced new appointments to the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) Council.

AIATSIS welcomes the appointment of new Council Chairperson, Professor Clint Bracknell, and new Deputy Chairperson, Ms Michelle Deshong, to the AIATSIS Council.

We also welcome four new members to the Council: Professor Lynette Riley AO, Mr Rodney Dillon, Mr Mark Yettica-Paulson and Ms Jayde Geia.

The Minister said that 'this accomplished and committed group of First Nations Australians would help lead AIATSIS to tell the stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people'.

Following the Minister’s announcement, AIATSIS CEO, Leonard Hill said he was looking forward to working with the newly appointed Council members.

“I am very much looking forward to working with our new Council members and Professor Bracknell and Michelle Deshong in their new roles  – together with on-going members, Associate Professor Myfany Turpin and Professor Fred Cahir – as we implement priorities under our new Strategic Plan and progress towards Ngurra: The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Precinct”, Mr Hill said.
