Native title: creating and realising commercial opportunities

Wintawari Guruma Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC is the native title holder for the Eastern Guruma people whose land covers over 6,500 square kilometres around Tom Price in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. 

The establishment of a commercial arm in 2014 was a significant step for the group. The commercial arm has already been involved in over $35m in contracts and generated $1.2m in returns for the community.

The presentation will discuss the structure, activities, results, challlenges and lessons learnt during the last three years. 

Directors, management and advsors of native title body corporates should consider the significant competitive advantages that they possess and how commercial opportunities can be exploited and realised for the long-term benefit of their people. 

This will be an interactive session that will encourage the discussion of new ideas and challenges for PBC's as they seek to build capability and create returns for their community from commercial enterprise.
