Growing space for Indigenous people in the booming green economy
The last five years have seen governments change their approach to climate and energy policy and renewable energy development. The past decade has also seen an increased commercial focus on environmental and climate change risks and impacts. Like all infrastructure and major projects, clean energy and renewables projects require land access and interests. This presentation will explore the pathways for indigenous peoples’ participation in the environmental economy, including native title negotiations relevant to renewable and green development projects. It will highlight examples of the opportunities and risks affecting indigenous peoples and step through options that might be available to native title groups in dealing with emerging green development.
