Summary

Stated purpose:

The purpose of this bill is to consolidate the current seven acts managing Tasmania’s biosecurity into a single modern statute that will remain “fit-for-purpose” without becoming duplicative or outdated. The Bill proposes a simplified and more effective legal framework for managing pests, diseases and invasive species, imports of plant and animal products, biosecurity emergencies, and monetary reimbursement for biosecurity related loss.

The Bill requires that the Minister consult with the Minister administering the Aboriginal Lands Act 1995 (Tas) before making a control order that affects or relates to Aboriginal land.
