The annual Russell Taylor Oration is set to take place on 12 October at Maraga Canberra, from 12:30 pm to 1.30 pm. This year's event holds a special significance as it celebrates the life and achievements of the late Russell Taylor AM, former CEO of AIATSIS, and welcomes his daughter, the Honourable Justice Louise Taylor, as the guest speaker.
Justice Taylor, a Kamilaroi woman and a highly respected lawyer, has made significant contributions to the legal profession. In 2018, she was appointed as a Magistrate of the ACT Magistrates Court, and in August 2023, she became the sixth resident judge of the ACT Supreme Court. As the daughter of the late Russell Taylor, Justice Taylor's participation in this year's oration is particularly meaningful.

Originally established to commemorate the exemplary service of the late Russell Taylor AM, former CEO of AIATSIS, the oration aims to ignite inspiration among emerging First Nations leaders. Russell Taylor AM retired as the CEO of AIATSIS in December 2016 after a distinguished career within the public service spanning over two decades. Throughout his time in the public service, he held various Senior Executive Positions and became one of the most senior Indigenous Commonwealth Public Servants.
As we gather for the Russell Taylor Oration each year, we pay tribute to Russell's enduring leadership legacy, his unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, his invaluable contributions to the Australian nation, and his remarkable service to the Commonwealth Australian Public Service.
The event promises to be memorable, bringing together esteemed guests from the public service, legal profession, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities from across the country. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear Justice Louise Taylor share her insights and experiences, offering invaluable inspiration to future leaders, followed by a Q&A session led by Dr. Caroline Hughes AM, acting CEO AIATSIS.
