The educational resource, Our Land, Our Stories has taken out two honours in the 27th Educational Publishing Awards Australia (EPAA), receiving the Best Student Resource 2020 and Outstanding Primary Resource 2020 awards.
Our Land, Our Stories is a landmark educational series exploring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, peoples and cultures developed by Nelson, A Cengage Company in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS).
AIATSIS CEO, Craig Ritchie, welcomed the news and paid tribute to the people who helped to create the ground-breaking educational series.
“Receiving two awards from the Educational Publishing Awards Australia is a wonderful recognition of the excellence, innovation and care that was taken to create Our Land, Our Stories”, Mr Ritchie said.
“I’d like to congratulate and thank all of the people who created this resource, here at AIATSIS and at Cengage, but particularly the many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and contributors from all over Australia”.
Our Land, Our Stories allows Indigenous students to see themselves in the curriculum while empowering educators to confidently teach about the diverse stories, history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The series is supported by rare photographs and audio-visual material, including over 450 images drawn from the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies’ collection.
