Shortlist announced for the 2019 Stanner Award

The shortlist for the 2019 Stanner Award has been announced, with four outstanding finalists now vying for the unique prize. The winner will be announced on 15 August 2019.

Held biennially, the Stanner Award is presented by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) for the best academic manuscript written by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander author.

Congratulations to the following shortlisted entries:

  • Dr Maree Meredith for 'Mapping the health promotion benefits of Art Centres on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands: an Ethnographic Account.'
  • Dr Steven Kelly for 'My Mob, Our Country: A Qualitative Study on how a Nanda Family Group Connect to Each Other and Country.'
  • Dr Marlene Longbottom for 'Balwalwanga bhulungs: We are strong women.'
  • Dr Debbie Bargallie for ‘Maintaining the racial contract: Everyday racism and the impact of racial microaggressions on "Indigenous employees" in the Australian Public Service.’

The winner will receive a glass sculpture by award-winning artist Jenni Kemarre Martiniello, $5,000 in prize money, mentoring and editorial support from AIATSIS’ Aboriginal Studies Press to bring the manuscript to a publishable standard, and publication of the manuscript by Aboriginal Studies Press.
