ANIRC 2017 program announced

Over 150 leading thinkers, covering the spectrum of Indigenous research and policy development, will come together for three days of thought provoking discussion as part of the program for the AIATSIS National Indigenous Research Conference (ANIRC) in Canberra.

Being held from 21 – 23 March 2017, this year's conference theme, Impact, Engagement and Transformation, will place a strong emphasis on how practical and meaningful impact can be achieved for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Co-convened with the University of Canberra, the program brings together researchers, policymakers, cultural and collecting institutions, the corporate sector, and a wide variety of Indigenous organisations and communities.

Keynote speakers include:

Professor Mick Dodson AM – Director of the National Centre for Indigenous Studies, Australian National University & AIATSIS Chairperson
Pat Anderson AO – Lowitja Institute Chairperson & Referendum Council Co-Chair
Professor Tom Calma AO – University of Canberra Chancellor
Moana Jackson – Director of Ngā Kaiwhakamārama i ngā Ture and Lecturer at Te Wānanga o Raukawa, Ōtaki
Professor Cindy Shannon – Pro-Vice-Chancellor, University of Queensland & AIATSIS Council Member

Sessions will cover a broad range of issues including collections infrastructure and access, health, community development, governance, research and cultural capability, education, partnership and engagement models, research ethics and assessment, communication and storytelling.
