AIATSIS Indigenous Art Market Returns

The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated return of the AIATSIS Indigenous Art Market this December. It will be bigger and better than ever! You can attend the art market in person on the lawns outside the Maraga building at 51 Lawson Cres Acton, in the heart of Canberra, from 8-10 December and purchase online from 8-17 December. Art centre and artist registrations are now open.

Mark your calendars for the event, as Maraga, Canberra, will come alive with a dynamic array of Indigenous art, culture, and heritage. Showcasing the exceptional works of talented Indigenous artists from across the nation, this year's event promises to be an unmissable celebration of creativity and diversity.

The AIATSIS Indigenous Art Market is an integral part of the Australian cultural landscape, providing a platform for Indigenous artists to share their stories and showcase their artistic prowess. This year, we are proud to announce that the event will be held in person, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere and connect with the artists on a personal level. There will be lots of entertainment over the weekend, including local musicians, singers, food trucks, and artist workshops to indulge in.

In addition to the three-day extravaganza at Maraga, the AIATSIS Indigenous Art Market will extend its reach through a curated online market, run in partnership with the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation, ensuring that art enthusiasts from all corners of Australia, and across the globe, can participate and support these incredible artists. This online market will run for ten days from 8-17 December, allowing ample opportunity to explore and purchase exceptional Indigenous artworks, jewellery, weaving, glass items and more.

We are inviting all artists and art centres across Australia  to register to participate in this wonderful annual event. There is no cost to artists or art centres to be involved, with 100% of all sales returning to the artist or art centre. The AIATSIS Indigenous Art Market welcomes artists from diverse backgrounds, showcasing various artistic styles and mediums. Whether you are an established artist or an emerging talent, we encourage you to seize this opportunity to share your unique voice and contribute to the rich tapestry of Indigenous art in Australia.
