The 2018 National Native Title Conference is sold out.
The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) advises that registrations for this year’s National Native Title Conference to be held in Broome, WA from 5 to 7 June, will close at 5pm AEST, Friday 13 April, 2018.
This is a change in circumstance to previous years where registrations have been accepted right up until June.
“We are very excited to be co-convening this year’s conference with the Kimberley Land Council on the traditional lands of the Yawuru people, in Broome,” AIATSIS CEO Craig Ritchie said.
“Hosting the conference in Broome does however present some logistical challenges, so to ensure we have suitable infrastructure in place, and supplies ordered in advance for such a large gathering, we need to know how many people are coming much earlier this year.
“This change in our process is necessary to ensure conference delegates have a safe and enjoyable experience at Australia’s premiere Indigenous policy conference.
“We don’t want anyone to miss out, but spaces are strictly limited, so please, if you are planning on attending this year’s National Native Title Conference, register your intention by the close of business this Friday, 13 April 2018.”
The 2018 National Native Title Conference program is now available. Entitled ‘Many Laws: One Land’, the program features 110 speakers who will deliver more than 70 presentations over three days.
The packed schedule is headed by keynote speakers Emeritus Professor Michael Lavarch AO, Nyamba Buru Yawuru CEO, Peter Yu, NTSCorp CEO, Natalie Rotumah, Nyamba Buru Yawuru Community Development Manager, Ninielia Mills, and Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Senator the Hon. Nigel Scullion.
This will be the first National Native Title Conference to be held in the far north west of Western Australia, and coincides with two significant anniversaries: the Kimberley Land Council’s 40th anniversary, and 40 years since the historic Noonkanbah land rights dispute.
