Summary

Boigu is a lively collection of writings from the past and present. It includes stories of brave warriors and traditional customs, of love and hope, of everyday experiences and practices, of business enterprises and industrial disputes, and of friendships and religious influences.

Boigu's position and culture form a unique part of our history. It is part of the Torres Strait's top western islands and as the most northerly island of Australia, it is much closer to Australia's neighbours than the Australian mainland, lying just six kilometres off the Papua New Guinea coast.

The elders of this small island community have chosen to write their stories and their histories for the benefit of all Australians, many of whom know little about the Torres Strait.
