The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) is provided this submission to the Inquiry into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples Recognition Bill 2012. AIATSIS supports the proposal for an act of recognition by the Australian Parliament as part of a campaign towards an eventual constitutional amendment; however, has concerns about the process and terms of the review proposed in the Bill; the Bill’s sunset clause; and the language proposed for the Bill’s statements of recognition.
