Issues of impact: the return, renewal and publication of a Pilbara song

This presentation focuses on an impact case study of a collaborative research and exhibition project ‘Singing the Train’. It provides a preliminary analysis of responses from participants and project partner organisations to the question of impact resulting from the interpretation, translation and public production of a Nyamal language song recording held at AIATSIS. It is especially concerned with developing terminology of significance with community members and knowledge holders to describe impact in the area of the return, renewal and public production of audio legacy recordings. The presenters will provide an overview of the Singing the Train project, an introduction to the research methodology and a preliminary analysis of the issues emerging from interviews with participants and stakeholder organisations.
