In 2016, the Wadeye community deposited with AIATSIS over 550 MiniDV tapes and over 300 VHS tapes. The largest audiovisual collection ever deposited with AIATSIS. In partnership with the Kanamkek-Yile Ngala Museum, Wadeye, NT, Thamarrurr Development Corporation, The University of Melbourne and AIATSIS, researchers investigated how culturally significant and endangered local audiovisual archives could be effectively preserved and transmitted to current and future generations. Developing collaborative partnerships, utilising digital technologies for cultural transmission has lead to the establishment of a long-term research partnerships which will inform public policy and improve local communities access to their history and heritage.
