Partnerships for energy security: a pathway for independence and self-determination
Advances in renewable energy technology coupled with decreasing costs opens the potential for remote communities and groups to empower themselves to live on country without having to rely on traditional, fossil fuel-based energy sources. Moreover, for communities and groups with land assets connected to regional or national grid networks, opportunities potentially exist to develop economic opportunity through investment in renewable energy infrastructure.
In this panel discussion facilitated by Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), expert panel members will provide an overview of the renewable energy market in Australia today, share learnings from various renewable energy projects including partnerships with Indigenous communities and groups in remote and regional Australia, and draw on the views of experts from the community. The panel will discuss the scope for properly structured renewable energy arrangements to contribute towards independence, economic development, self-determination and cultural rebuilding, and include community case studies.
