Native title corporations and treaties

This presentation will focus on Treaties, First Nations and the role of Prescribed Bodies Corporates (PBCs) and Registered Native Title Bodies Corporate (RNTBCs) in an attempt to identify the practical mechanisms and resources that will be required to facilitate an effective process. Drawing observations from the Canadian treaty processes and observations of the South Australian and Victoria ‘treaty’ processes, this presentation will look at the role PBCs/RNTBCs can play and what they might do to prepare to participate in a national representative mechanism, a national treaty framework and ultimately a in preparation for First Nation to Government direct negotiations.
