Status: This Bill was introduced into the House of Assembly on the 22 of November 2018.

Stated Purpose: This Bill amends the Land Acquisition Act 1993, which contains the legislative process by which an acquiring authority may acquire land in Tasmania, and sets out the basis for determining compensation paid to property owners who have had full or partial acquisition of their land for infrastructure projects. The amendments are stated to provide a more streamlined operation of the Act and align the assessment of compensation with acquisition legislation in other Australian jurisdictions.

Native title implications:  This Bill may have implications for Aboriginal land holders regarding compensation for the acquisition of land.
