Summary

This is an Act to amend legislation about planning, building, and the environment.

The Act includes significant amendments to the Heritage Act 2004 (ACT). The amendments offer protection of information relating to Aboriginal places and objects requiring that the council be satisfied the releasing the information will not diminish the heritage significance of, or damage the place or object. A further requirement is that the information must be used for a specified purpose, including academic research, assessing heritage significance, or used in connection with planning, land management, or a development proposal. The amendments also require a conservation management plan to be adopted and approved setting out the conditions of future use of an Aboriginal place or object. The plan must identify any threats and set out a plan of management for those threats, and include relevant descriptions, details, and history of the Aboriginal place or object.
