Welcome to the
Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies

Continue

AIATSIS acknowledges all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Traditional Custodians of Country and recognises their continuing connection to land, sea, culture and community. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that this website may contain images, voices and names of deceased persons.

Family history research projects can be time-consuming and frustrating but also very rewarding. We have put together a range of information and resources to help you on your journey.

Our program aims to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Stolen Generations survivors and their families by providing family history research assistance and access to information about their families.

The Family History Unit does not provide family history support to determine if you have Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage.

If you are seeking proof of Aboriginality, AIATSIS does not assist with or provide proof of Aboriginality.

Family History Kit

We have collated all of the family history information on our website into a single pdf.
