BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
John (Jack) Edward O'Brien Waterford was born in
Coonamble, NSW on 12 February 1952. He was educated at St Joseph's
College, Hunter's Hill, Sydney and later graduated from the Australian
National University with a Bachelor of Laws. He joined the staff of the
Canberra Times in 1972 and from 1973 has worked as a journalist with that
newspaper.
From 1977-79 he took leave of absence from The
Canberra Times to work with the
Central Australian Aboriginal Congress, and later as researcher and
report-writer for the National Trachoma and Eye Health Programme.
Since 1972 Waterford has written extensively on
Australian Indigenous issues. For a listing of this material held by

He was appointed Editor of the Canberra Times in
1995.
