BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Bruce Shaw was born in Adelaide, South Australia, in 1941 and studied social anthropology at the University of Western Australia in the 1960s. His acquaintanceship with several Indigenous Australians in 1970 kindled his interest in recording their memories and in 1973 he began collecting life stories. For six years Shaw was a lecturer in social anthropology at the Darwin Community College (now University of the Northern Territory).
