The discussion will centre on Heidi’s new book, ‘What do we want?’: A political history of Aboriginal land rights in New South Wales.
The passage of land rights laws in New South Wales in 1983 saw political intrigue, deception and disappointment as well as unprecedented engagement by Aboriginal citizens and their supporters. The laws enacted after the 1978 land rights inquiry changed the power relations between Aboriginal people and the state.
The panel will discuss the land rights movement and its ramifications.
‘What do we want?’ will be available from the AIATSIS online shop and all good bookstores from 1 May 2015.
This event is on Tuesday 5 May 2015, 6pm for 6.30pm start.
