The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) and the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) have made the decision to postpone the Common Problems Shared Solutions Symposium scheduled for March 17-19, 2020 as a result of the changing and widespread impacts of COVID-19.
FUTURE DATE TO BE CONFIRMED.
This decision was not taken lightly and was about ensuring the health and wellbeing of all attendees and staff, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities from across Australia.
Details about the rescheduled dates will be provided shortly on our website and via email for those who registered or expressed their interest previously.
Common Problems - Shared Solutions is a free, three-day symposium, jointly presented by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) and the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA).
This symposium brings together experts in audiovisual digitisation, engineering and collection management to identify and solve common issues and practices through shared solutions.
We are five years away from Deadline 2025 – the critical date identified by UNESCO after which content held on magnetic tape might be lost forever due to carrier degradation, lack of working playback devices and loss of human engineering expertise. Our collections are at risk and we must act quickly in order to digitise and save hundreds of thousands of hours of Australian stories, heritage and history.
Time is running out and there is so much we must achieve together. Join us in Canberra this year and help us collaborate to build the shared solutions and capabilities framework from engineering and equipment to workflows and knowledge. Help us tackle the challenges of Deadline 2025.
- Day 1 - Preserving Collections in Practice: Case Studies
- Day 2 - Developing the Shared Solutions Model
- Day 3 - Frameworks, Initiatives and Outcomes
