Wednesday, 19 September 2018

The Russell Taylor Oration celebrates the achievements and contributions of senior Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders in the Public Service as a way to inspire the next wave of leaders.

This year’s event is presented by Wiradjuri woman Katrina Fanning and is part of AIATSIS' year long celebration of the 2018 NAIDOC theme ‘Because of Her, we Can!'

Katrina is a director at Coolamon Advisors where she provides a broad range of expertise across Government Policy and Operations, including a deep understanding and proven capability across Indigenous areas.

Katrina has multi-layered public sector experience at SES levels and has been responsible for leading complex operational and policy activities for a number of organisations. Most recently, Katrina was the General Manager of Operations and also the General Manager of Strategy, Innovation, and People at Aboriginal Hostels Limited. In these broad roles, Katrina supported the board and CEO in undertaking the planning and execution of activities for AHL across Australia.

Russell Taylor AM

The Russell Taylor Oration was established in celebration of the service of former AIATSIS CEO Russell Taylor AM. Mr Taylor retired as the CEO of AIATSIS in December 2016 and was at the time one of the most senior Indigenous Commonwealth Public Servants. He spent over 20 years in various public sector Senior Executive Service positions.

The Oration acknowledges Russell’s leadership legacy, his service and dedication to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the Australian nation, and his contribution to the Commonwealth Australian Public Service.
