The Mura Badulgal (TSI) Corporation RNTBC, located on Badu Island, administers land on behalf of the Badulgal people. The Badulgal people’s ownership of Badu and surrounding islands in the Torres Strait was recognised in the Native Title Determination Badu Islanders #1. Badu Island is one of the larger islands and is partly covered with mounds of basaltic rocks, lightly vegetated open areas. The township of approximately 1200 people is well serviced with paved roads, reticulated water, sewerage, electricity and waste management services. Schools, health facility, two supermarkets, hotel, motel, child care centre, airstrip and sporting facilities compliment the community. Before Badu Island Council was amalgamated, the Councillors fought to the have the Badu Deed of Grant in Trust (DOGIT) remain under the control of Badulgal. After successfully challenging the State the RNTBC are now the trustee of our lands and are empowered to administer its lands on behalf of Badulgal.

Director, Mura Badulgal (TSI) Corporation RNTBC
